Overview:

In Uganda, the Lord has blessed (un)adopted with two great partnerships: Save the Street Children Uganda and with a local church pastor, Pastor Raphael, to reach out to deaf orphans in the community.  Through both of these partnerships we see the body of Christ work together to care for the fatherless.

Pastor Raphael and his church body have worked hand in hand with (un)adopted to open a school in February 2012 for deaf orphans and children in the community. In Uganda, deaf children are considered outcasts in society and are often abandoned by caretakers. Pastor Raphael answered the call to care for these children by opening his church building as a place for them to learn sign language. Most of these children had never been taught to communicate. After a few months of learning sign language, they have been radically changed and their voices are being heard for the first time. God has drawn the local church together to care for the children who are learning sign language. Throughout the week, church members stop in to learn a few words or sentences so they too will be able to communicate with the children. Our hope is that more deaf children in Uganda will have the same opportunity to learn to communicate and be shown the love of Christ.

(un)adopted also partners with Save the Street Children Uganda, whose mission is to advocate for and alleviate the challenges facing street children, ex-street children, and other vulnerable children in Uganda. Save the Street Children Uganda’s staff seeks to not only bring kids off the street, but to educate, equip, and love these children with the love of Christ. (un)adopted has the opportunity to lead teams who serve alongside Save the Street Children Uganda, teach job and life skills, and participate in community outreach.
